Student Lending Works Hits 500 Mark

Student Lending Works, the state of Ohio's designated nonprofit provider of student loans, has helped more than 500 students and families fund higher education since its introduction in September 2005.

The agency is a nonprofit resource created in collaboration with the state of Ohio. Its mission is to provide Ohio students and their families with low-cost Federal education loans.

The surplus generated from the loans will be used to support the state's education initiatives. To date, through its parent foundation, more than $100 million has been invested in education initiatives.

For the 2006-07 school year, Student Lending Works has introduced Stafford Loans and Parent Plus loans with benefits designed to help Ohio students and parents pay for the increasing cost of college. The organization also will host on-campus events and financial seminars geared toward educating students, parents and faculty about how to manage debt and consolidate student loans and the importance of managing debt now instead of later.

The organization also just announced that it will be distributing free copies of the Graduate Survival Guide to help recent college graduates make the transition from college to the world of work. Students can request a free copy online or pick up a copy on select college campuses throughout Ohio.
